Road Safety - Cumeragh Lane

Road Safety - Cumeragh Lane

6th of July, 2024

The Parish Council raised no objections to a traffic calming proposal to erect speed humps and junction tables on Cumeragh Lane as they were a condition of the planning application for the Barratts site - Rogerson Gardens.

However, concerns were expressed regarding the safety of the bend on the Cumeragh Lane / Camforth Hall junction including the fact that the warning chevron had not been replaced.

LCC Highways replied - We are still having ongoing discussions with the developers to agree a scheme to make the corner safer, such as, either provide the removed chevron or increase the vehicle restraint barrier with a smaller chevron behind.

I can appreciate that this may seem like there has been little movement since our last correspondence on the matter back in October 2023, however the problem we previously faced was that we were struggling to get any response from the developers. We are pleased to inform you that this is no longer the case, and the developers are working with us to come to an agreement. Once we have come to an agreement, the site will be assessed by a vehicle restraint system specialist before the works can commence on installation. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an accurate timescale for this process, however we expect it to be well into quarter four of 2024.

A further email was sent asking if other traffic calming measures had been considered prior to the bend.

LCC's reply is attached.
