Become a Parish Councillor
22nd of June, 2026
The Parish Council has a vacancy which can now be filled by co-option which means if anyone is interested in joining our team then we would like to hear from you.
A Parish Council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people living or working in its parish. As the authority closest to the people, Parish Councils are invariably the first place people will go to with concerns or ideas.
The Parish Council’s work falls into four main categories:
- representing the local community
- striving to improve the quality of life in the parish
- considering the impact of planning applications in the local area
- delivering services to meet local needs
Whittingham Parish Council covers the areas between Langley Lane and Goosnargh Village and Cumeragh Lane to Halfpenny Lane / Inglewhite Road. For election purposes, the Parish is divided into 2 wards - Higher Ward and Lower Ward. A vacancy has occurred in Higher Ward and interested people are invited to apply to be co-opted on to the Council.
To be a Parish Councillor you must be
- British or a citizen of the Commonwealth.
- At least 18 years old.
- Registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked, or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.
Whittingham Parish Council meets once a month (with the exception of August and December) usually on the second Thursday at 19:15 hours at Goosnargh Village Hall. Meetings usually last about two hours hours, depending on the items listed on the agenda and members of the public are always welcome to attend.
Written applications stating your reasons for applying and detailing any knowledge or skills you may bring to the role should be sent to the Parish Clerk at clerk@whittinghamparishcouncil.org.uk or if you would like a chat first then ring him on 07508783185.
The closing date is 8 July 2026 so we can hopefully make a decision at our next Council meeting scheduled for 9 July 2026.
